Peace on Earth

Fans of The Damned Utd can take a short trip to Wakefield on Wednesday (May 4) to hear David Peace read from his damning indictment of the miners’ strike GB84.
 
Peace will be in his home county for a special free event at the Red Shed Labour Club reading extracts from GB84, which remains the best fictional depiction of the devastating impact of the miners’ strike across Yorkshire.
 
The event will also hear readings from No Redemption, a book of photography form the 1984-85 miners’ strike by Keith Pattison recalling the impact of that great struggle on local communities and people.
 
Pattison was commissioned in 1984 to spend a month with the community around Easington Colliery, who held out until the bitter end, photographing the impact of the year long dispute on a close knit mining community.
 
The event also premieres a new short play The People’s NHS, written by Christopher Gibson from Red Ladder Actors.
