PARTY in the Park, the UK’s largest free annual outdoor music party, features some chart-topping acts on this year's bill.
The event, hosted by Leeds City Council and 96.3 Radio Aire, expects to see an audience of 70,000 at Temple Newsam Park on Sunday 31 July.
This year organisers have introduced a new ticketing system, which will give priority to Leeds residents.
The new balloted ticket distribution system, similar to those used for Glastonbury, Wimbledon and the London 2012 Olympics, has been introduced due to huge demand for tickets.
People wishing to attend the event can register for a maximum of four free tickets per household at the Radio Aire website from 8am on Tuesday 31 May 2011 until 10pm on Sunday 26 June.
Anyone living in a property where council tax is registered to be paid to Leeds City Council will be given priority for the tickets, which will be selected at random and the successful applicants will be informed by email by 10pm on Friday 1 July.
In previous years, tickets have been allocated on a first come first served collection basis. However, all tickets were snapped up in just a matter of days due to demand.
The new fairer and streamlined ticket distribution method is supposed to ‘help create a positive feeling across the city in promoting equality of access to the event.’
The named applicant can then pick up their tickets from the reception of 96.3 Radio Aire on Burley Road weekdays 8am to 6pm and Saturdays 10am to 2pm between Monday 4 July and Friday 29 July using proof of ID and their address.
Anyone without access to the Internet can use the free computer facilities in all Leeds libraries and the Leeds Visitor Centre to make their application.
People attending the Aire on the Square event on Saturday 28 May, will be guaranteed a ticket for Party in the Park providing they have proof of Leeds residency and retain their ticket stub from the Aire on the Square event.
